Classroom Presentations and Workshops
Writing Center Orientation
This 15 minute presentation informs students about a free resource available right on their campus: The CMU Writing Center. While giving the hours and locations of the Centers, the
presentation also provides a brief model of a writing center
session, giving students a glimpse of the philosophy of the Center and what it has to offer them. We will come to your classroom at a time that works best for you.
Writing Model Session
During this presentation consultants give feedback on a sample paper from your class. They will discuss global and surface level writing concerns specific to your assignment. This session engages students with writing and models the type of feedback students will receive at the Center. At least one week before the presentation, we will need a copy of your paper assignment and a student sample paper. If you do not have a sample, the Writing Center can work with you to create one. Allow approximately 30 minutes for this session.
Dr. Crawford will work with you to make sure that the model fits
your assignment and expectations.
Peer Editing Workshop
Called a “Fishbowl,” this workshop demonstrates the benefits of peer review. Drawing on questions and input from students, consultants will discuss peer revision and writing issues and demonstrate a peer revision session by critiquing a paper from your class or using one of our samples. Allow approximately 30 minutes for this session.
