Historical Census Browser which now includes mapping functionality.  The data presented here describe the population and economy of U.S. states and counties from 1790-1960.  The available data differ somewhat from decade to decade according to what was collected in the census and the items chosen for transcription to electronic format.  For the early decades, most of the enumerated items are included.  For later decades, only a portion of characteristics have been transcribed.  No information is available below the county level, and only states are included.  The Historical Census Browser permits a person to 1) examine multiple topics within a census year; 2) produce tables of data by state or county; 3) sort data by selected categories; 4) create ratios between any two data categories; 5) generate maps of selected data.

Land Patent Search offers researchers a source of information on the initial transfer of land titles from the Federal government to individuals.  In addition to verifying title transfer, this information will allow the researcher to associate an individual (Patentee, Assignee, Warantee, Widow, or Heir) with a specific location (Legal Land Description) and time (Issue Date).

Michigan County Histories is a collaborative effort of Michigan's Council of Library Directors.  The collection is projected to provide access to 192 histories dating from 1866 to 1926.  There are 195 volumes in 164 titles currently online.  The collection is also searchable.

Statistical Abstracts data ranges from our most recent edition to the historical abstracts compiled throughout the decades.  Some of the data were scanned as an effort to make historical abstract information available to the public.  The display of data will be updated continually as historical records become available.

Michigan Plat Maps provides access to digital images, with print capability, of the plats and related documents of land subdivisions in the State of Michigan's plat files.  The State of Michigan began maintaining a file of all plats in the state in 1873.  A copy of all plats prepared after that date were filed with the state.  Beginning in 1909 and completed in 1911, a copy of all plats on file with the 83 county Register of Deeds and recorded prior to 1873 were duplicated and the duplicate copies incorporated into the State's files.  This system includes all plats in the State of Michigan beginning with the plats created under the 1821 territorial act for recording town plats.

American Memory Project is an online archive maintained by the Library of Congress.  It contains over 100 collections of rare and unique items important to America's heritage.  The collections contain more than 7 million primary source documents, photographs, films, and recordings that reflect the collective American memory.  They are a treasure trove of unique personal items from another period in time such as old records, letters with exquisite penmanship and arcane language, clothing, keepsakes, and faded photographs.  These collections provide "snapshot" glimpses into America's past.  The Teachers link in the lower right hand of the main page will take visitors to the Learning Page.  This page is designed to help educators use the American Memory Collections to teach history and culture.  It offers tips and tricks, definitions and rationale for using primary sources, activities, discussions, lesson plans and suggestions for using the collections in classroom curriculum (note:  look at the Conservation Crossroads lesson plan for a familiar name).
