| How To Write It | Deadlines | Sample Report |
Please note: reports on movies must be submitted in both electronic and hard copy form.
Your two-page report should be typed and double spaced. At the top, along with your name, list this basic information (as is relevant to your particular report):
* program or article title or topic
* date, time, and place
* name of the presenter(s)
* approximate number in attendance
Your report should have two distinct, clearly designated parts:
1. Report on Contents. Reports must include a one-page report that describes or summarizes the program in such a way that someone who did not see the program would be able to know what went on.
This part of your report is worth up to 50 points for Campus Programs and up to 25 points for movies or television and radio programs.
[There is no need to write the "Report on Contents" for newspaper or magazine articles. Instead, reports on newspaper or magazine articles must include a photocopy of the entire article.]
2. Discussion of Connections. All reports also must contain a one-page "Discussion of Connections." This part of your report is worth up to 25 points. It should include of these questions: Did this program or article contain content, ideas, concepts, or themes that are similar to or examples of things we already have studied? Name or identify them, and describe or explain the connections between REL 240 materials and this program or article. What new things were you able to see or understand?
The extent and quality of connections (but not your position on issues) is the key to earning full credit.
While there are no specific deadlines for doing or reporting on field assignments, I encourage you to submit reports within two weeks. In addition, PLEASE NOTE:
1. Your first report must be turned in no later than the start of class Wednesday, March 14.
2. While you may attempt up to 150 points, no more than 125 points may be earned.
3. "Discussions of Connections" that do not receive full credit may be rewritten or revised (with no penalty).
4. No reports or revisions will be accepted after
the start of class Wednesday, April 25.
