ABOUT S.A.S.P.
CMU was one of the charter chapters of Student Affiliates in School Psychology. Since 1981 we have had an active S.A.S.P. organization for doctoral and specialist students. The group typically meets monthly for socialization and to discuss research, program issues, and conference attendance. Members plan an annual picnic to welcome new students and introduce them to their student mentors (upper-level students in the program), and end of the year send-off party for graduating students, and several fund raisers. Money from fund raisers is used to cover costs of student conference attendance, the welcoming picnic, and end of the year party. S.A.S.P. members assist in preparing an annual newsletter sent to alumni from the program. Students are encouraged to work on independent research programs and to attend the Michigan Association of School Psychologists annual conference. The department also has monies available to fund student presentations at national conferences. Faculty and students work in collaboration in research and publications, together they also present regularly at conferences.
