About Phi Sigma Tau
Phi Sigma Tau is the International Honor Society in philosophy. Founded in 1930 at Muhlenberg College (Pennsylvania) and incorporated as a nonprofit corporation in 1955, the society now has a network of over 140 chapters throughout the United States and Canada, at both public and private institutions of higher learning. Central Michigan University hosts the fourth active chapter in Michigan, the others being located at Sienna Heights College, Albion College, and Michigan State University.
Purposes of Phi Sigma Tau
1. To serve as a means of recognizing students who have achieved high scholarship and personal interest in philosophy; 2. To promote student interest in research and advanced study in philosophy and its cognate fields; 3. To provide opportunities for the preparation and critical discussion of student and faculty papers of philosophical interest; 4. To encourage a professional and friendly spirit among those who have displayed marked ability in philosophy; 5. To popularize interest in philosophy and in those who study philosophy among members of the Central Michigan University community.
Standards

Membership shall be conferred in strict accordance with the standards established by the Association of College Honor Societies. The sole basis of selection shall be the character and the scholastic or professional records of the candidate. Reception into membership shall be consummated without secret pledge or secret order training." -- Phi Sigma Tau Constitution
