Whereas Montford F. Piercey received his Ph.D. degree in pharmacology at Albert Einstein
        College of Medicine in 1972 and ascended to rank of Senior Scientist at Pharmacia-Upjohn, where he devoted 25
        year of his life searching for potential treatments for diverse human diseases, such as schizophrenia, drug addiction,
        and Parkinson’s disease;

Whereas Montford F. Piercey has contributed over 100 scientific publications and has given countless invited talks and
        scientific presentations all across the U.S. and around the world;

Whereas Montford F. Piercey has been an active ember of several professional organizations, including the Society for
        Neuroscience and The American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, and has served on
        study committees for the National Institute for Drug Abuse, and chaired several international conferences, and
        has served as editorial referee for a dozen professional journals;

Whereas Montford F. Piercey has devoted countless hours of his time, his energy, and his expertise to the Michigan
        chapter of the Society for Neuroscience, serving as Organizer and Chair of the 1994 meeting, as Chair of the
        Awards Committee, and as the Chapter President from 1995 through 1997;

Whereas Montford F. Piercey has devoted his life to his family, to his friends, and to his community, to extending
        the boundaries of science and human knowledge, and to helping and serving others;

Be it therefore resolved, on this day of May 21, 1999, that the Michigan Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience
        recognizes and honors the distinguished service and the outstanding accomplishments of our colleague and dear
        friend, Montford F. Piercey.
