Assignment #2
This is the first assignment that you will turn in for a grade. You
must use a word processor to complete this assignment; however, please turn in a
paper copy (not an electronic copy) of your paper. Your assignment is due
on Friday, January 26, by 5:00 p.m. You can bring the assignment to my
office (AN 312B) or you can put it in my mailbox which is located inside the
sociology office (AN 144).
- Begin by reading this Letter to the Editor.
- Now, discuss those aspects of the letter which reflect non-scientific
thinking AND those aspects of the letter which reflect scientific
thinking. Be as specific as possible, quoting from the letter as
appropriate to support your arguments and clarifying why some approach is or is
not scientific.
- If you wanted to conduct a scientific study of the parking problem in lot
22 (the one in front of Anspach Hall), what would you do to reduce the
problems associated with the "study" conducted by J. Student, the
letter writer?
