VIII. Bivariate Analysis
1. We ask 20 people, "What is your age?" We code the
responses as "young" and "old." We ask the same 20 people the extent
to which they agree or disagree with the statement: "Gay people should be able to
serve in the American armed forces." We code the responses "agree" and
"disagree". We create the following cross-tabulation. (Note we combined the
"strongly agree" and the "agree" into AGREE, and we combined the
"strongly disagree" and the "disagree" into DISAGREE.)
Fill in the percentages on the lines NEXT TO the numbers in the table
above. Percentagize the table in a way that allows you to test the hypothesis: Young
people are more supportive of gays in the military than old people.
