Phi Alpha
Theta, Omicron Omega Chapter
Phi Alpha Theta was established in 1921 as a national History honors society and academic fraternity. Currently, the organization includes 839 active chapters and approximately 275,000 members. Qualifications for membership include at least a 3.1 grade point average in History and a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average. At Central Michigan University, the members of Phi Alpha Theta engage in both academic and social activities. Their academic activities have included attending national and regional paper conferences and organizing faculty and graduate student research talks. One of their social activities is the monthly movie night, when students and faculty gather to watch and to discuss historical documentaries or movies based on historical events. The organization’s biggest event is the annual spring trip to places such as Chicago, New York, or Washington, D.C., where members visit museums and other historical locations and attractions. Members of Phi Alpha Theta are eligible for various History Department scholarships and national paper prizes and awards. Moreover, they have the wonderful opportunity to interact with History Department faculty and students who share a love and pursuit of historical knowledge. Members of the Central Michigan University chapter meet every Sunday at 5:00 p.m. in Powers Hall 204. For more information, please contact the executive board at patatcmu@cmich.edu.
