For Families

This page has information that may answer the questions of parents and guardians of children who are deaf-blind.

  • If your child has problems with seeing and hearing, or you suspect that he or she does, we
may be able to give you valuable information to help your child learn, communicate, play and grow.

  • You may want to learn how other families with children who experience problems with seeing
and hearing have helped their children grow up to do their best.

  • You may want to know about your choices when teaching your child to communicate, when
selecting a school program, or when planning family activities that include everyone.

  • You may want to become more involved in the inner workings of our project. We use parents as paid consultants to advise us on our activities. We also provide training to parents who wish to become support for other families.

Please contact us if you are concerned, or have questions about some of these issues. We can come out to your child's home or school environment to help give expert suggestions on how to address some of these issues and more. Please see the Program Information page for more details about eligibility and the services that are available.

Parent and Family Scholarships

Each year our project has a limited number of scholarships available for parents and families to use to attend workshops, conferences, camps or seminars that may be of interest. We have several scholarships still available this year. The maximum amount available (per family) is $200 towards the registration and or lodging costs of any conference/workshop that will help you and your family better understand your child's disability. If you would like more information please contact our office by e-mail < dbcen@cmich.edu > or telephone 1-888-758-0508.

Eligible events may include, but are not limited to: summer family camps, annual TASH conference, NFADB conferences, a disability specific conference, and just about any other conference or workshop where you can learn more about your child's disability.

Exceptional Parent Magazine

Parenting your child or young adult with a disability or special health care needs has an excellent web site at < www.eparent.com >. This web site features information from their magazine on resources, toys, technology and healthcare for exceptional parents and children.
