M.A. in English Language & Literature with Creative Writing Concentration
The Department of English at Central Michigan University offers a concentration in Creative Writing. At Central we emphasize not only quality instruction but a high degree of one-on-one interaction between faculty and students.
The application procedure is as follows:
1. Fill out the
application
for admission to the Graduate College.
2. Request transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate work attempted from
all institutions attended (the Graduate College will pull CMU transcripts).
3. Write a 1-2 page statement of intent: what you hope to do with the
degree, what you hope to learn, what current strengths you now have, etc.
This will give us some insight into how to develop a program of study that
will meet with your expectations.
4. Provide the money requested by the Graduate College as a fee.
All 4 of these items go directly to the Graduate College (cf. the
application form).
5. Develop a portfolio which meets your requirements: 15 pages for poetry,
30 for fiction, in duplicate. Send your portfolio and a brief cover
letter to:

If the portfolio is submitted at the same time as the application, the
admission process will be speeded up.
