Paul M. Bishop and Family Endowed Award

Scholarship awarded to a junior or senior enrolled in social work courses with preference for out-of-state residents.

  • Minimum 3.25 GPA

  • Junior or senior standing

  • Students enrolled in social work courses

  • First preference to out-of-state resident who demonstrates financial need

Center for Research on Poverty (CROP) Scholarship

Scholarship awarded to a graduate student in sociology who writes a master’s thesis that enhances the understanding of the causes, consequences and alleviation of human poverty.

Provides direct funding of student research with an activist component.

Karen L. Mohr Chavez Memorial

Supports field or laboratory research for anthropology students.

Friends of Anthropology Summer Scholarships

Provides supplemental financial support to anthropology students enrolled in field school programs.

  • Anthropology majors who intend to study anthropology in a graduate program

  • Based on academic excellence overall and in anthropology courses

Leslie and Leonard Lieberman Scholarship

Scholarship awarded annually to an anthropology, sociology or family studies major.

  • Junior or senior standing in the semester following application

  • Minimum 3.4 GPA

  • Recipients are chosen on the basis of excellence in academic performance and writing skills as demonstrated in an essay describing career goals.

Award Amount: $500 - $1,000

 


Edward E. McKenna Academic Excellence Award

Scholarship awarded annually to sociology majors.

  • Junior, senior or graduate student

  • Must demonstrate exemplary achievements in sociological research methods based on a research paper(s) submitted as well as overall achievement in sociology

Award Amount: $500

 


Bernie MeltzerBernard N. Meltzer Scholarship

Scholarship awarded biannually to provide a stipend to a sociology graduate student.

  • Graduate student who has written the best master's thesis in sociology within the prior two years

Deadline: NA - Dept. selects winner every two years.
Award Amount: $500

 

 


Social Work Education Fund

Provides funding for CMU social work students performing professional development activities.

      •  Students enrolled in social work courses

Deadline: Ongoing
Award Amount: Based on need
