John E. Warriner Scholarship
CHSBS
By receiving the John E.
Warriner Scholarship I was afforded the opportunity to take additional
courses that were not included in my program. More importantly, I was
able to take the GRE test and apply to 10 Ph.D. programs around the
mid-West and East Coast. Had I not received this scholarship, I would
not have had the money to expand my list of prospective graduate
schools due to the costly process of applying to such programs.
Scholarships are marks of
achievement that reflect a student's extraordinary capabilities and
professional potential that is essential in the real world.

Jeanette
R. House Memorial Scholarship
English Language and Literature
I pursue every opportunity
to apply for scholarships in order to subsidize the cost of my
education. My parents are very generous in their support, but our
family's financial burden has increased considerably. My mother and
brother are both entering college this fall, so the Jeanette R. House
Memorial Scholarship will relieve some of my family's financial
burden.
This scholarship also makes
it possible for me to continue to focus on my education without the
added pressure of outside employment or loans.

Edana DuGuay Scholarship for French Study Abroad
Foreign Languages, Literatures and Cultures
The Edana DuGuay Scholarship
enabled me to spend my summer studying abroad in Annecy, France. The
scholarship paid for more than half of my round-trip ticket to Europe,
which was quite costly. Scholarships enable students to pursue their
educational goals and give them self-confidence by recognizing their
educational achievements.

Dennis Thavenet Study Abroad Award/History Department
History
The Dennis Thavenet Study
Abroad Award helped to finance my study abroad experience in Paris.
Without scholarships, many students would not have the opportunity to
study abroad. I appreciate the interest of donors and alumni who
support opportunities for students to enhance their educational
experiences by studying abroad.

John
G. Kulhavi Scholarship
Colonel William B. Nolde Scholarship
Military Science/ROTC
Scholarships are important
to students not only for the monetary aspects but also for recognition
of personal achievements, which encourages students to maintain their
academic standing. I was selected to receive the John G. Kulhavi and
Colonel William B. Nolde scholarships based upon my demonstration of
excellence in the CMU ROTC program.
These scholarships have
helped me greatly by assisting me with the costs of tuition and fees
and providing me with credentials that helped secure my employment as
a Resident Assistant on campus.

Pfeiffer Prize for Writing
Philosophy and Religion
Scholarships are important
to students not only because they offset the costs of attending
college, but also because a majority of them recognize students for
work that they do--work that sometimes goes unnoticed.
During my four years as a
religion major, all of the winners of the Pfeiffer Prize for Writing
were students I looked up to because of their academic achievements.
Winning this award is one of the best honors that I have ever received
because it puts me in the same category as the students I admired.

Edward H. Potthoff, Jr. Scholarship
Political Science
It would be difficult to
find the words to adequately express my gratitude for the receipt of
this award, which is dedicated to individuals who seek to serve in
local government. Gifts of money toward scholarships are truly some of
the most philanthropic and continual. To have been part of such an act
of kindness and graciousness is truly inspiring, and I promise to work
hard to bring honor to the Potthoff name.

Anne
Miller-Quimper Memorial Award
Psychology
With assistance from the
Anne Miller-Quimper Memorial Award, I can accomplish what will be the
final step toward achieving my lifetime goal of completing a
dissertation for a Ph.D. degree. Scholarships provide opportunities to
those who might not otherwise have the resources to complete higher
education degrees or intensive research projects.
Many individuals are capable
of making a difference in the world, but they often do not have the
financial means to do so. Scholarships make it possible for many more
students to reach their lifetime goals and affect the lives of others
through their scholarly and professional endeavors. Scholarships are a
priceless gift.

Leslie Lieberman Social Science Scholarship
Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work
The Leslie Lieberman Social
Science Scholarship has helped me to pay my tuition without needing to
take out loans to pay for my undergraduate education. With recent
tuition increases, students' bills in their junior and senior years
are much higher than they anticipated as freshmen, so scholarships are
helpful in lowering these costs. In addition to their monetary value,
scholarships are important because they encourage students to excel
academically and reward them for doing so.
