Webmaster Note:  This page is managed by me (alone) in my "free" time for the benefit of Anthropology students, especially those at CMU.  It is a nearly impossible task to add new links in a timely fashion and keep up with endless updates, corrections, and deletions.  Nevertheless, user input is welcome and may be sent to Charles M. The Anthropology Major and Minor

  • Requirements of the Major and Minor - departmental website for Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work
  • Course Descriptions - Bulletin descriptions of all ANT courses offered at CMU.  Note:  many of these courses are offered only intermittently, and some only infrequently; it's a good idea to consult your advisor when developing a long-term plan of which courses to take and when.
  • Major Map:  This illustrates one possible sequence of how to complete the requirements of the major.  These requirements are detailed in the Undergraduate Bulletin for the academic year specified on the form used to sign the major.  The specific course selections and order in which they are taken will vary considerably from student to student, depending on student interests, the timing of when certain courses are offered, any semesters of study abroad, etc.  Questions?  See your advisor!

Study Abroad

Note:  CMU students who wish to take course outside the U.S. and have Study Abroad and/or transfer credits appear on their transcript MUST arrange their program of study through the Office of International Education (see below).  Certain well-know programs are highly recommended, while others are considered unacceptable or inappropriate for CMU students.  There is no assurance that any of the Study Abroad links listed here or any overseas fieldschool links listed above will meet with CMU approval.  Consult with this office early, long before you would like to go; it may take a while to get your chosen Study Abroad program processed and approved.
