Indiana University-Bloomington
  • Tenure–track and tenured positions in human evolution. The College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University seeks to fill two positions, one associate professor and one tenure-track assistant professor, both in the study of the evolution of human intelligence. Areas of special interest include hominid palaeoneurology, brain imaging research pertinent to human evolutionary studies, evolutionary psychology, or molecular neuroscience directly relevant to human encephalization or language origins.  Applicants must demonstrate a strong research history and publication record focusing on the evolution of human intelligence. Applicants should indicate whether their tenure home preference would be in the Department of Anthropology, Biology, or Psychological and Brain Sciences.

The successful candidates are expected to maintain close research relationships with the Center for Research into the Anthropological Foundations of Technology (CRAFT) and the Cognitive Science Program at Indiana University. For the associate professor position, the candidate should be recently tenured. For the assistant professor position, Ph.D. must be in hand before the beginning of the fall semester, 2008. Interested candidates should submit an electronic application or send a complete package by mail. A complete application should include: statement of research and teaching interests, curriculum vita, and a list of at least three referees for the assistant professor position and six referees for the associate professor position, with the referees’ full contact information including email addresses. Cornell University
  • The Department of Anthropology at Cornell University seeks applicants for a one semester, full-time, visiting assistant professorship for the spring term 2008 (classes begin January 21 and the last day of examinations is May 16). The teaching load is two courses: 1) "Medicine, Culture, and Society," a course (description below) oriented toward a general undergraduate audience and 2) a First-Year Writing Seminar on any topic.  Compensation for the one semester will be $27,500 plus standard benefits. California State University, Northridge
  • Effective Date of Appointment: 8/20/2008 (Subject to Budgetary Approval). Rank: Assistant Professor. Salary: $53,772-59,000. Qualifications: Applicant must have a Ph.D. in Biological Anthropology or related discipline in hand at time of appointment. A Ph.D. is required for the granting of tenure.
  • CSUN is a Learning Centered University. The successful candidate will be expected to join faculty and staff in a commitment to active learning, to the assessment of learning outcomes, and to multiple pathways that enable students to graduate. At time of appointment, the successful candidate, if not a U.S. citizen, must have authorization from the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services to work in the United States. Evidence of degree(s) required at time of hire.
  • Responsibilities: The candidate must have a strong commitment to teaching and should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching a diverse student population. We seek candidates who will teach introductory classes in general and physical anthropology and upper division courses in human paleontology, human variation, primatology, and human behavioral evolution and who will develop an active research program in one of those areas. The standard teaching load at CSUN is four courses per semester.

University of Wyoming
  • Biological Anthropology:  University of Wyoming Department of Anthropology seeks to fill a tenure-track line in biological anthropology for fall 2008 at the assistant professor level.  Required qualifications:  completed PhD by starting date (August 2008) and expertise in anthropological human osteology. Preferred qualifications:  research interests in bioarchaeology, human variation, human growth and development, or forensic osteology; ability to teach a graduate level quantitative methods course; and evidence of ability to attract extramural funding.  The department has BA, MA and PhD programs and is explicitly four-field; candidates should address how their research would fit into such programs in their letter of intent.

SUNY College at Buffalo
  • Tenure-track assistant professor, Anthropology Department, to begin September 1, 2008.  Competitive Salary.  Responsibilities:  teach introductory and advanced courses in physical/biological anthropology.  Conduct research and publish in scholarly publications.  Mentor and advise undergraduate students.  Engage in service activities at department and college levels.  Qualifications:  Ph.D. in Anthropology with specialization in physical/biological anthropology.  Evidence of scholarly potential and commitment to undergraduate education.  Preferred qualifications:  expertise and ability to teach an introductory course in human origins and upper-division courses in human variation, human evolution, primates, forensic anthropology.  Research/teaching interests in applied anthropology.  Review of applications will begin November 1, 2007 and continue until position is filled.

University of North Carolina at Greensboro

  • Pending budgetary approval, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro Department of Anthropology seeks qualified candidates to fill two positions (rank open) in Physical/Biological Anthropology to begin in August, 2008. We expect to fill one position at the rank of Assistant Professor. Candidates should have a record of scholarship (Individuals appointed at the Rank of Associate or Full Professor will be expected to have an active funded research/publication program), and demonstrated teaching ability. The successful candidate must be committed to high quality undergraduate education and show a willingness to include undergraduate students in their research activities. Candidates must hold or anticipate a PhD in Anthropology by August 1, 2008.
