A Conference to Focus on the Mid-Michigan Region

We have a tendency to get caught up in our own areas of interest and expertise, so join us in crossing those boundaries. Come network with economic and social service professionals; government and educational representatives; and community leaders to enhance regional thinking.

There are many success stories in the mid-Michigan region--come hear what is going on in our region and discover how CMU can assist in these efforts by providing resources and services that might not otherwise be available.

The conference begins on Thursday, August 6th at 8:00 a.m. with registration and a continental breakfast and continues throughout the day. (View tentative Conference Schedule.) If you register before August 1, the cost is only $35 and covers breakfast and lunch on both days.

  • Keynote Speaker: Chuck Fluharty, the founding director of Rural Policy Research Institute (RUPRI) and an internationally recognized expert on rural development.

  • Featured Speaker: Leslee Fritz, Governor Granholm's recently appointed Director of the Economic Recovery Office on Michigan's response to the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act.

  • Information Sessions on working with local business incubators, Michigan Economic Development Corporation's Community Action Team, and using CMU’s public library resources for development.

  • Workshops to enhance your skills in asset-based community development, grantsmanship, and evaluating program outcomes.

  • Roundtable Discussions on topics of interest to participants.

On Friday, you can attend workshops and networking sessions.

If you stay in Mount Pleasant overnight, we have arranged the option for you (and your family/children or colleagues) to stay in a campus residence hall at a very attractive price.
