This page gives you some information on my interests and hobbies, and gives you some links to related web sites.  If you're interested in this, you probably have WAY too much time on your hands!

Life:  My wife, Judy and I are busy trying to keep up with our sons, Jaden (age 6) and Ryan (age 17).  These guys keep us constantly on the go.  Ryan is into hockey (he follows the Philadelphia Flyers and the Philadelphia Phantoms) and Creed.  He's also an avid drummer (playing on his set of Pearl drums in the basement every day).  Jaden is an active little guy who keeps us on our toes constantly.  He's into Nemo and Winnie the Pooh.  Judy spends much of her day teaching and interacting with Jaden (who has a quickly expanding vocabulary as proof).  She also loves working in the garden, reading (she's in a book club), and strolling around Mackinac Island on a warm summers day.  When we go on outings away from Mt. Pleasant, we both like museums, concerts (jazz and rock...we've seen Crosby, Stills, and Nash, and also James Taylor this summer), and plays.  She also writes and draws, and does needlework and craftwork...all part of her many creative outlets.  And when we're in a competitive mood (which is often), we enjoy trying to beat each other at Scrabble.  My family is in Washington state, and Judy's is in New Jersey (and Florida), so we try to visit those places as often as possible.  Last summer we spent time in Washington where my mom celebrated her 80th birthday and on the beach in Florida.  I'm working on getting some pictures of all of us here...

Social Psychology: Though social psychology is my job, I am also lucky in that I consider it to be my hobby as well. What follows are a number of links to interesting social psychology sites on the web: This one is a great jumping off point for all things social psychological: The social psychology network. Sites of some social psychology journals provide information about these outlets for our scientific research: the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology; Journal of Social Issues; Basic and Applied Social Psychology; Journal of Experimental Social Psychology; Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, Personality and Social Psychology Review. Sites of some social psych associations: Society for Personality and Social Psychology (SPSP); Society of Experimental Social Psychology (SESP); Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues (SPSSI), of which I am a Fellow

Sports and competition: Being a sports fan and growing up in Seattle, I am an avid follower of Seattle's 3 major league sports teams, the Mariners, the Seahawks, and the Sonics. The Mariners have treated us to a great few years of baseball, and are getting ready to begin spring training for the new season.  As a graduate of the University of Washington, I also am a big follower of Husky Football.  I am planning to attend the season opening game against Notre Dame in South Bend this year.  Let's hope the outcome is better than the opener last year at Ohio State.  As to the coaching situation at the U-dub:  Good riddance to Rick Neuheisel...an embarrassment to the University.  My goal in golf is to play the top 100 courses in the U.S. (I added Sahalee, in the Seattle area in 2001) and the top courses in England and Scotland as well.  I've played 13 of the current Golf Digest top 100 courses, with a few more that were on older Golf Digest lists but have since fallen out of the top 100.  If any students or fellow psychologists have connections to one of the private courses on the Golf Digest list, get in touch.  I'm good company and a decent golfer, and any help getting on these great courses would make you a friend for life.  A trip to Great Britain over ten years ago helped move me toward the goal of playing the top courses in the British Isles. I played all the courses on which the British open is currently played, with the exception of the Grandaddy - St. Andrews.  I will go back to play there someday.  Another outlet for my competitive nature is poker.  When time permits, I enjoy playing in the 7-card stud tournaments at nearby casinos...
