Each student's overall G. P. A. for SOC 501, 601, 607, 631, and 632 must be at least 3.00.

SOC 501 (3) Development of Sociological Theory
SOC 601 (3) Contemporary Sociological Theory
SOC 607 (3) Methodology of Sociological Research
SOC 631 (3) Workshop on Qualitative Research
SOC 632 (3) Techniques of Sociological Research
On Plan A:
SOC 602 (3) Professional Seminar
SOC 798 (6) Thesis
Selected Courses:
Plan A: 0-9 hours
Plan B: 3-15 hours
To be selected in consultation with advisor.

II. Cognate Courses (0-12 credit hours)

To be selected in consultation with advisor.

Total: 30 hours


M.A. in Sociology
Concentration in Social & Criminal Justice

I. Sociology Core (15 hours): SOC 501, 601, 607, 631, 632. Each student's overall G. P. A. for these courses must be at least 3.0.

II. Justice Core (12 hours): SOC 621, 623, 624, and  625.     (also see course scheduling notation *below)

III. Cognate Plan B (3 hours): one course from the following: SOC 515, 521, 523, 524, 526, 527, 699 (with Justice emphasis only) or one approved course in applied areas such as public administration, public finance, management, human resources, counseling or psychology.

IV: Thesis Plan A (9 hours): SOC 602, SOC 798.

Total: Plan A, 36 hours; Plan B, 30 hours.


*Course Scheduling:  Note that beginning with the 2002-2003 academic year, SOC 501 and SOC 607 will be offered every year.  The remainder of the required courses will be offered once every two years.  The two-year cycle will be:
