Current projects
Kinney is currently working on four research projects: (1) an
ethnographic study with colleagues at the University of Michigan and
University of Maryland of how families manage their everyday lives (e.g.,
parents' careers, children's school and after-school activities) in an
increasingly fast-paced society; (2) a quantitative and qualitative
study of young adults' transition to college and "binge" drinking; (3)
applied research with students and teachers at a successful alternative
school; and (4) a qualitative study of the nature and impact of adolescents'
peer culture and school social stratification systems of cliques and crowds
on teenagers' identity formation and change over time in diverse Midwestern
high schools.
