Field Assignments

You may earn up to 125 points by reporting on any number and any combination of these things related to African American religion, life, and culture.  [While you may attempt up to 150 points, you may not earn more than 125 points.]

    1.    Approved Campus Programs    75 points
            [report on contents = 50 points; discussion of connections = 25 points]

From time to time, the instructor will call attention to various campus programs related to African American religion, life, and culture.  These programs will not be spread evenly throughout the semester.  Recently, there have been 10-15 programs a semester.  Only programs approved in advance by the instructor are available for credit.  If you learn of an upcoming program that appears to be suitable, please bring it to the instructor's attention in a timely way so that he can (1) judge whether it is appropriate for credit and (2) announce it to the class.

2.     Approved Movies or Television or Radio Programs  50 points
             [report on contents = 25 points; discussion of connections = 25 points]

This website contains a list of approved movies that are available on video.  If you learn of an upcoming television or radio program that appears to be suitable, please bring it to the instructor's attention.

Before writing a report on any television or radio program, be sure to check with the instructor to see if the program is appropriate for credit.  The instructor has chosen movies in which the connections to course materials are fairly clear.  While he often will approve others, please note that the connections may not be as clear; consequently, it will be harder for your reports to earn full credit. 
Please Note:  reports on movies must be submitted in both electronic and hard copy form.

Instead of writing a "Report on Contents,"  submit a copy of the article and attach it to your report.  Then write a "Discussion of Connections."  = 25 points]

Many relevant magazines are located in the Multicultural Programming Center, located in Bovee University Center 125.
