AUTHOR'S NAME:
TITLE:
The Text Preparation Sheet lets you record and react to the problems that surfaced in preparing a presentation text. It gives you a place to concentrate on the correcting of sentence-level and word-level errors and to create a list of problems to consult in the future, as you prepare the presentation text of the next paper. Over the course of a semester or a school year, it gives a list of recurring problems and, by making you conscious of them, makes it easier toovercome or avoid them. Print out this form in place of one handed out in class or use a copy for other papers and examinations you get back in other classes. In Freshman Composition, completion of a Text Preparation Sheet for each Communication is required, and each final draft in the portfolio should have a text preparation sheet attached. All the sheets should be consulted as you prepare the presentation texts for the portfolio.
Step #1: Record each of the text preparation errors (grammar, spelling, punctuation, sentence completeness, paragraphing) you find in the draft returned to you and explain how to correct it. If you consult a handbook, record the page number(s) where you could find the explanation again if you needed to look it up. (Example: "This was not done. Because of its difficulty." Sentence completeness, punctuation. Should be "This was not done because of its difficulty.")
Problem(s)
Explanations
Step #2: Review the problems and explanations listed above.
Are there any that you still can't explain? that only happened in this
paper? that recur in each paper? Compare this TPS with prior
ones: What problems aren't recurring? Use this space to update your
text preparation progress, special needs, and tactics to overcome recurring
problems (in addition to consulting the handbook and/or the instructor).
