I should mention that the notes and what we do in class may not line up exactly. This is because I want to teach the course in a way that is at least partly conversational, and doing so will require that I depart from the "plan" as contained in my lecture notes. In some cases this simply means that I will cover the same material in class as on the notes, but in a different order. In other cases, it means that I may discuss things in class that do not appear in the notes. In other cases, I may have to make time for a spontaneous class discussion by skipping some of the less important material from the notes.

Here's a cool link on the problem of identity over time. It is an interactive presentation of the "Ship of Theseus" puzzle, from West Virginia University . Check it out.
