Bio:

Roger Van Horn received his Ph.D. in Experimental Child Psychology from Iowa State University in 1969.  He came to Central Michigan University in 1971 after two years as an instructional design researcher in an educational research laboratory in Los Angeles.

Research Interest:

Dr. Van Horn's research takes a multi cultural approach to studying cognitive and social development from late childhood through adolescence.  His primary interest is in assessing the impact of cultural values and traditions on social-cognitive development.  The main developmental processes he studies include: social skills; social support characteristics in close interpersonal relationships; strategies for resolving interpersonal conflict situations; and personal problem-solving styles.  He is currently conducting research projects in Brazil and Japan.
