PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT-TRAINING SEMINARS

 

CALL staff are available on a limited basis for the following presentations.  Presentations that have been scheduled are listed.  To schedule a new presentation, please Contact Us.  There is no charge for these presentations.  However, in the interest of time, we would prefer having groups of 15-50 participants. Each presentation is approximately 2 hours in length.

CALL staff are available to provide training seminars for 3 to 5 school staff at the Central Assessment Lending Library on CMU’s campus. The topics can be individualized to fit the needs of your district.  There is no charge for these seminars.

This presentation covers norm-referenced options, criterion-referenced tests, developmental inventories, and informal procedures, including those for children with cognitive levels below 12 months.

This presentation addresses the various aspects of cognitive development as they relate to assessment and to planning instruction.  The five cognitive scales for children from birth to age two will be reviewed in terms of their technical adequacy and usefulness of for planning instruction.

Sleep Problems in Young Children:

This presentation addresses infant and childhood sleep as well as sleep disorders for young children. A brief history of sleep research will be followed by a description of typical sleep patterns as they develop. Common sleep problems such as resistance in going to sleep, night wakings, and parasomnias, such as sleep walking and night terrors are discussed. Various methods parents can use to reduce sleep problems and encourage healthy sleep habits in children are covered.

This presentation covers the services that the Central Assesment Lending Library provides and how to use its resources.

Cognitive Assessment for Infants, Toddlers, and Preschoolers:

This presentation addresses the various aspects of cognitive development as they relate to assessment and to planning instruction.  The five cognitive scales for children from birth to age two will be reviewed in terms of their technical adequacy and usefulness of for planning instruction.

Comprehensive Assessment of Autism Spectrum Disorder:

This presentation will include a systematic and comprehensive model for assessing autism spectrum disorders, including evaluation of the various options for diagnosis as well as instructional planning.  The overlap with other disorders, as well as the overlap within the autism spectrum, will be considered.

Psychoeducational Assessment of Students who are Hearing Impaired or Deaf

This seminar covers background information necessary for working with students who have a severe loss of hearing, e.g., performance on cognitive measures and the effect of cochlear implants. Conducting a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment for these students is addressed, including consideration of specific procedures and assessment options for assessing adaptive behavior, social skills, language, academics, and cognitive development.

Psychoeducational Assessment of Students who are Visually Impaired or Blind: Preschool through High School

This seminar covers extensive background information needed when working with students from infancy through high school who have a severe loss of vision. Conducting a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment is addressed, including consideration of specific procedures and assessment options for assessing adaptive behavior, social skills, language, academics, and cognitive development.

Use of the Brigance Diagnostic Comprehensive Inventory of Basic Skills-Revised (CIBS-R)

This seminar addresses how to use the CIBS-R that assesses skills typically taught in kindergarten through grade 9. The strengths and limitations of the inventory as a norm-referenced measure and as a criterion-referenced test for instructional planning will be addressed, along with suggestions on how to administer the inventory efficiently.

Use of the Brigance Inventory of Early Development-II (IED-II)

This seminar covers the use of the IED-II that assesses skills typically learned by children between the ages of birth and 7 years. The strengths and limitations of the inventory as a norm-referenced measure and as a criterion-referenced test for instructional planning will be addressed, along with suggestions on how to administer the inventory efficiently.
