CMU ROTC
Cadets have the chance to join several clubs including:
Ranger Challenge
|
The most elite club in ROTC can be summed up in two
letters, RC. Ranger Challenge. The Ranger Challenge Club is comprised
of only the finest cadets in the CMU ROTC program. These cadets learn
valuable basic military skills including map reading and land
navigation, basic marksmanship, assembly and disassembly of the M-16A2
and M-9 pistol, grenade assault course, and rigorous physical exercise.
These skills are put to the test in a fun, high stress weekend of
demanding head to head competition every year at an annual Ranger
Challenge Competition. This competition is against at least 10 other
college ROTC programs. If you are not in shape, Ranger Challenge is the
place for you to fix that. A variety intense exercise plans are sure to
have you ready for any physical fitness test. Cadets participating in
Ranger Challenge are highly motivated and have a chance to enhance their
leadership abilities by having the opportunity to teach other cadets and
lead in physical training. Nothing builds a greater sense of self-worth
than accomplishing goals you never thought they could, such as
completing a 10k ruck run or working as a 9 man team to cross a stream
with a one rope bridge in under three minutes. If you think Ranger
Challenge sounds like something you want to be a part of, please feel
free to contact anyone in the Military Science Department.
Cannon - The Redleg Cannon club was first
established in the fall semester of 1996. The Cannon Club fires a pack
75 Howitzer at all of the home football games. This cannon is named
"Brewers Pride." This club also participates in the Homecoming and Veteran's Day
Parades.
For Veteran's Day, "Brewers Pride" executes a 21 round salute in honor of
all of our veterans. The cannon was named after SFC (Retired) Michael Brewer.
The club was his idea and, with his hard effort, he got the pack 75
Howitzer donated to our ROTC program.
