Outcomes assessed for this academic year |
Way this assessment was carried out |
Expected measures from these assessment instruments |
|
Language Structures and vocabulary: A student writing assignment in FRN 430, the capstone course for French majors. [In the plan, we said we would use the following instruments: the FRN Assessment Exam; student writing assignments and oral presentations from upper division courses. We decided it would be more effective to do what is described in the next column.] |
An original draft of a 300-word summary of the capstone project was used for this assessment. There were two senior French majors on the BA/BS degree enrolled in the course. |
Intermediate High level of proficiency on the ACTFL scale. [In our original assessment plan, we erroneously named this level “advanced intermediate.” ] [for ACTFL Guidelines, see http://departments.bloomu.edu/langcult/resources/actfl.html ] |
3. Results, conclusions, and discoveries. What are the results of the planned activities listed above? What conclusions or discoveries were made from these results? Describe below or attach to the form.
|
Results, conclusions, and discoveries |
|
On the summary in French, one of the students was rated at the Advanced Low level and the other at the Superior level. These results exceed the parameters to be achieved for this year’s assessment plan. |
4. Use of Results. Did the results lead to program changes? If so, describe the changes made. If not, describe why changes were not needed.
|
We are very satisfied with these results. They reflect our efforts to concentrate on written communication and to encourage all our majors to study abroad. |
5. Dissemination of results, conclusions, and discoveries. How and with whom were the results shared?
|
The results of this year’s assessment will be shared with the other departmental faculty members at the first faculty meeting in the fall of 2005 and will be published on the FLLC website. |
