CRITERIA FOR JUDGING FOREIGN LANGUAGE DAY COMPETITIONS
| SONGS |
1. Pronunciation/Intonation
2. Memorization
3. Quality of singing (balance, harmony, etc.)
4. Appropriateness of presentation
5. Length (limit to a maximum of five minutes; including set up,
performance and teardown)
6. Cultural relevance
7. Only one performance per student who performs individually
NOTE: Students must bring their own equipment if
they would like music to accompany them in their song.

1. Level of language mastery (compared with class level)
(grammatical accuracy, intonation, fluency, pronunciation)
2. Preparation and organization
3. Staging (props, costumes, etc.)
4. Acting (memorization, timing, effectiveness, etc.)
5. Originality

7. Enthusiasm
8. Length 2-5 minutes

of selection for judge.

EACH SCHOOL IS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 3 DISPLAYS:
1. Effectiveness and appropriateness of theme
2. Effectiveness and appropriateness of the materials
3. Originality
4. Artistic impression
5. Spelling/Language Use (NEW)
Note: Displays may NOT include items which are for sale.
Each entry will be provided a 4' x 6' table (all other necessary equipment must be
provided by the participants). No open flames are allowed in the
University Center. Students do NOT need to remain with their
displays. However, if students want to make an oral presentation as part of the
display, they may do so between 10:15 and 10:30.

EACH SCHOOL IS LIMITED TO A MAXIMUM OF 2 POSTERS:
1. Originality of theme
2. Originality of illustration
3. Simplicity and effectiveness
4. Artistic impression
5. Spelling/Language Use (NEW)
Note: If done by hand, the poster MUST be 15" x 15" in
black ink or black permanent ink marker on white illustration board. Poster entries may be done on the computer. The poster theme may be
submitted on an 8 1/2" x 11" sheet of paper in black ink. The languages
used in the poster must be ones taught at CMU. The student(s)
name(s), class level, and school name should be written on the back of the poster.
We ask that students avoid portraying any negative cultural stereotypes in their
entries. Any posters not meeting the above criteria will not be judged.
