FRENCH, GERMAN, or SPANISH

This $500 scholarship was established in 1988 by Jacques E. Perry, CMU class of 1949, and Helen (Holly) M. (Baer) Perry, CMU class of 1950. They met in foreign language classes at CMU in 1946, and loved learning and teaching French and Spanish.

Holly received a four-year scholarship to attend CMU and Jacques often made use of the Small Loan Fund. Because of this they have established a scholarship for foreign language students who are in their third or fourth year and are dedicated to the foreign language(s) as their life's work.

* Student must be a CMU junior or senior
* Student must be majoring in French, German or Spanish
* Student must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher
* Student must have a grade point of 3.0 or higher in the language(s) studied
* Student must submit an unofficial transcript
* Student may not already have received the scholarship
* Student must submit a double-spaced, typed essay of 250-500 words in answer to this question:

How and why do you envision using your foreign language(s) as an integral part of your life's work?

* Application must be made to the office of the Department of Foreign Languages, Pearce 305, by April 1st.
