DeafBlind Transition Camp (DBTC) - Postponed
Unfortunately, outside
circumstances have forced a decision to postpone the DeafBlind Transition Camp
(DBTC) for 2006. There are several events occurring this summer that will make
having the camp difficult: The American Association of the DeafBlind has a teen
strand at their conference, which will occur one month prior to when we were
going to have the DBTC; the Helen Keller National Center has a two week summer
program for DeafBlind teens that was to over lap with our camp; and a Registry
of Interpreters for the Deaf Region III Conference happening in Milwaukee the
same week that we were to have DBTC. Having so many events for DeafBlind teens
this summer would make it difficult for us to make our minimum of ten campers.
We would likely also have difficulty finding enough interpreters to provide 100%
accessibility, given the interpreting conference. While the decision to postpone
was difficult for us to make, we know that it is the right thing to do. The
Planning Committee has not yet determined when the camp will be re-scheduled.
When we have dates, they will be posted on the DB Central website and
disseminated via flyers. –The DBTC Planning Committee (Jill Gaus, Beth Kennedy,
and Jonathan Truman)
